My Mila Dungarees

Wednesday, February 21, 2018

Hi Everyone,

Guess what I made? My Mila dungarees! Woohoo! Seriously my first pair of dungarees since I was 12, (don't ask me why - as I love them so much) and they were a huge success.

The pattern, if you didn't know, is Mila by Tilly and the Buttons. You can purchase the printed Mila pattern HERE. It's a slim fitting dungaree, rather than the oversized, baggy look that seems to be popular at the moment (my next venture). With classic buckle fasteners, buttoned sides and stretch fabric. It's a stylish shape with added comfort.

The fabric I used is a glittery pale blue stretch needle cord from Minerva Crafts. It's all my dreams come true, soft, pastel coloured sparkles, all in one fabric! It's also a lovely quality and I had no issues cutting or sewing it.

I added pale pink topstitching with the Gutermann topstitch thread (colour 0659 Pigtail Pink if you're interested). My machine didn't like the thickness of it very much, as the fabric was quite thick too. But I soldiered on and just became very patient with it (I did nearly cry at one point!).  I think I should have actually bought topstitching needles too, rather than just using a universal one.

I also added two iron on patches to the front bib pocket. These were both from Nikki McWilliams, which someone got for me for a birthday last year. They just so happened to both be cute pastel colours and matched perfectly with my dungarees.

What do you think? Can I pull these off. You can also watch my little review on my YouTube Channel HERE too. If you don't mind a bit of chattiness that is.

I'm extremely happy with the way these came out. I mean glittery needlecord cannot be beaten! I hope you all have a go with this pattern and would love to see your versions.

Happy Handmade!
