Nora Top - Winter Staple

Thursday, October 25, 2018
Hi Everyone,

So I have a new fave winter wardrobe staple! The new Tilly and the Buttons Nora Pattern. It's a slouchy, boxy, drop-shoulder top pattern. Have it long sleeved, short sleeved, polar neck or not, it's a fab make. The perfect item to have in your wardrobe for layering.

I made the extra long sleeved, polar neck, cropped version. It has a lovely stepped hem with a side split which I LOVE. I like these boxier shapes on me anyway and I think the casual drop shoulder look makes this an easy everyday wear.
The fabric I used was a little controversial; it's not even stretchy! I used an old pair of curtains that someone dropped off to me to recycle. I'm not sure they're a great fabric for curtains either as to me it's like a wool mix or brushed cotton. I just loved the green and black abstract paisley pattern, which actually makes it look a little leopard print-ey.
As it's not a suitable fabric to use, I did have to make one adjustment - the neckline. Obviously I wouldn't be able to get it on and off as there's no stretch. So I made the polar neck a loose fit, and checked I could easily get it over my head. I then cut a few millimetres at a time off my neckline in the main top piece until it fitted to the neck piece size. So my version made a really casual, cowl neck style, which I was actually really happy with. Plus I got to use some old curtains - so a great recycling project!

I hope you like what I've made. Let me know if you've made the Nora top already, or tag me in your photos. I definitely recommend this pattern for your stash!

Happy Handmade!
